SDC was thrilled to support the Winsor School solar project in Boston, Massachusetts, initiated by a middle school club passionate about environmental sustainability.

The students were involved every step of the way — presenting financing options to the school’s Board of Trustees, being onsite for material delivery, and meeting regularly with Resonant Energy, the solar developer.

Winsor is expected to realize over $1 million in savings and revenues from the solar array.

A Quote from Winsor’s Head of School

“This project was student-initiated by a middle school club called Planet Protectors. It was an ideal project type for student involvement because environmental sustainability is of great importance to them.

"Financing was a significant consideration for the students, so they priced out the options and presented their findings to our Board of Trustees. They argued convincingly that the financing would put this project within reason for our budget.

"We are very happy with the results, as the energy generated from the new solar panels installed covers 1/3 of our utility needs. We felt understood and supported by SDC’s partners CollectiveSun and Resonant Energy every step of the way, and they helped us to do the right thing for the school, the community, and the planet.”

— Sarah Pelmas, Head of School at Winsor School

The installed solar array, a 331 panel, 149 149kW-DC system, is expected to produce 175,000 kWh annually — the environmental equivalent of 152 acres of forest each year.

Although young, the Planet Protectors understood the risks of climate change, and the main objective was decarbonizing the school’s energy system. But, their mission didn’t end there — they planned to share their model with other students in Massachusetts, also advocating for renewable energy.

Congratulations to these students for their ambition and execution of this successful project.
